What is Balayage hair colour?
Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint.
It’s a freehand highlighting colour technique, that gives a blended natural look with no harsh or obvious re-growth lines.
It allows for a sun-kissed natural looking hair colour, as it emulates the parts of your hair that would naturally lighten in the sun. Balayage creates a totally bespoke, personalised colour finish. Depending on what you’re looking for, the finish can be subtle or bold. It’s the ability to completely tailor the colour effect that makes this such a popular hair colour choice.
Is Balayage the right colour for you?
This hair colour technique works on both light and dark hair depending on how much lighter you want to go. It works with the individual’s haircut, and is suitable for all hair lengths, apart from very short or cropped hair. Because it is hand painted, your colourist can choose the placements to best complement your haircut.
Appointment & price

Getting the best from your Balayage
One of the biggest benefits of this colour technique is it doesn’t require as much upkeep as a traditional hair colour – it grows out beautifully, meaning less maintenance.
Our typical Balayage can last up to 4 months. However if you have white hair you may need to come in sooner for a touch up to your roots.
Optional blow dry
When you book a hair colour appointment with us you don’t have to book a blow dry as you have complimentary use of our self-dry zone – saving you time and money.
However, if you are a blow dry junkie, we have our styling team on hand to create a beautiful professional blow dry or haircut.
Colour allergy test
For your wellbeing and to ensure we can safely apply colour to your hair, we need to check if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients used in our colour formula. We understand this may be inconvenient, but for us your safety comes first.
So if you’ve not had your hair coloured at James Dun’s House in the last 6 months, please ensure you pop in for a skin test at least 48 hours before your hair colour appointment. We won’t be able to colour your hair until we’ve tested you. You can pop in anytime for one, it only takes one minute.
