Profile of a spa therapist
Ashleigh Malone is part of our Glasgow Spa team. She has worked at James Dun’s House since February 2010, joining us as a receptionist. In November 2010 Ashleigh joined our spa team on a part time basis, working on both our front desk as well as in our spa. In November 2012 she became a full time therapist.
Here Ashleigh talks about how she achieved her current role.
I have always had a love for all things beauty, from painting my own nails to buying new products. When i worked a summer abroad, i realised there were so many job opportunities in the beauty industry, and it seemed to be the best option for me, a job where i love what i am doing. As soon as i came home i applied and got a place in HND Beauty Therapy. When i saw that James Dun’s House were recruiting in Glasgow, i applied immediately , as i have always loved the Aveda brand, and had been to the salon before and loved the friendly laid back atmosphere.
What tips would you give to anyone who wants to be a spa therapist?
Be prepared for what the course has to offer, it is not as easy as it seems with anatomy and physiology as well as business modules. Enjoy it and take as much from it as you can, as it all counts towards the skills you will need for the beauty industry. I always try to keep up to date with all the new treatments and trends through magazines and blogs, as it’s always changing.
What are the best and worst parts of your job?
The best part of my job is coming to work everyday and using all the lovely products. As well as making people look and feel good, with the amazing treatments we offer. Especially when you get a guest who has been particularly stressed or has a big event coming up and actually seeing a difference in their well-being after it. The worst part is wanting all the treatments that we do on a daily basis for myself, or chatting too much and running late.
What do you like best about being involved in the hair and beauty industry?
Everyday is different and i love meeting new people on a regular basis. I also love how ever changing the industry is, especially at James Dun’s House where we are constantly getting trained and educated on all the new Aveda treatments and products. Nothing beats coming to work everyday and doing something you enjoy.
